Job Duties for the Documentation Specialist:
Responsibilities include reviewing billing held documentation, generating documentation, receiving and verifying requested documentation and performing routine review.
Generate payer-specific documentation for new/existing patient orders
Log, prepare, scan, quality check and file incoming documentation. Update patient s accounts/orders with regards to documentation and billing status
Additional work activities include faxing/secure emailing/mailing of documentation to physicians/patients, outbound follow up calls to physician/patient for outstanding documentation.
Work with physician or PFS Coding staff to ensure that correct diagnosis codes are reported to third-party insurance carriers
Process rejections/non-qualified documentation by generating corrected documentation or requesting corrections made for any errors and resubmitting documentation to PFS Billing
Review and monitor Sales-to-Cash for outstanding documentation and facilitate obtaining documentation to ensure claims are billed in a timely manner. Complete weekly audits of Sales-to-Cash to ensure documentation has been entered and released for billing.
Establish relationships with physician offices and other referral sources (Wound Clinics/HHA)
Secure medical documentation required or requested by third party insurances. Verify for accuracy and completeness once documentation is returned
Work with PFS billing and Reimbursement Services to resolve any documentation issues as appropriate.

Job Requirements for the Documentation Specialist:
Must have at a high school diploma or equivalent
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Experience working with verification, documentation and/or medical records.
Working knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and CMS security requirements.
Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial payers, its rules and reimbursement.
Must meet drug screening and background requirements
