Indiana's Local, Employee Owned Food Distributor is currently looking for a Buyer to join their team. The department is expanding and the position could become permanent. This company also offers a full benefits package starting DAY ONE for contract and permanent employees.

Position: Contract (3-4 months but could extend to permanent)

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Shift: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Responsibilities of the Buyer:
  • Execute purchase orders to maintain proper inventory levels and deliver stated service level goals to customers.
  • Identify new sources of supply as needs dictate, in order to develop solutions to resolve current out-of-stocks and eliminate potential out-of-stocks through transfers or by expediting future deliveries.
  • Manage inventory investment to attain inventory days of supply targets.
  • Conduct order analysis to attain the best product net cost possible and maximize efficiency throughout the supply chain.
  • Proactively communicate and partner with vendors to improve lead times, on-time delivery of products, and vendor fill rates.
  • Communicate vendor and/or pricing issues to Sourcing Buyers and partner to resolve issues.
  • Proactively partner with the transportation department to identify opportunities to reduce freight costs.
  • Review and analyze daily and weekly reports to check service levels and inventory turns; make adjustments as needed.
  • Evaluate forward buys, based on cost increases and/or market fluctuations to ensure in-stock items and to leverage favorable market pricing
  • Handles invoice resolutions and pricing discrepancies.
  • Work closely with the Sales Team to provide support and ensure superb communication.
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, technology, and food safety.

Requirements for the Buyer:
  • Associate degree; or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with procurement, logistics and inventory management practices
  • Possess analytical, problem solving, planning, and organization skills with strong attention to detail
  • Written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective business relationships within and outside the company
  • Statistical skills are a plus
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, Microsoft Office skills a plus
  • Able to prioritize and work with a sense of persistence and urgency
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems; make sound decisions by using available resources and market information
