HireLevel is seeking a detail-oriented and critical thinker for a Tax Preparer for an established CPA firm located in Cape Girardeau, MO. This is a Direct Hire opportunity with a comprehensive benefit package offered.

The Tax Preparer complies with all IRS and state filing requirements and has previous public accounting experience.

Shift: Monday – Friday (daytime hours)
Compensation: $55,000 - $80,000/yr. (Depending on Experience)

Duties and Responsibilities of a Tax Preparer:  

  • Work on audits of local governments, not-for-profits, and small businesses
  • Prepare lower tax returns for:
    • Personal tax returns
    • Corporate and partnership tax returns
    • Farms
    • Small business
  • Complete complex tax returns of individuals and business
  • Ability to check financial statements and make adjustment to financials statements in order to be able to prepare the tax returns
  • Work through and reply to IRS notices and state notices
  • Research various tax topics

Qualifications of a Tax Preparer: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2-3 years public accounting experience required
  • Experience with tax processes 
  • Financial or accounting experience a plus
  • Knowledge of various computer programs (Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, Internet, accounting software, and database systems)
  • Ability to communicate orally in conversation both in person and by telephone
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must have reliable transportation and applicable insurance
